Us here known as The Evangelist (NDX and dogbeg) are not very outspoken people. We're pretty shy and like to keep to ourselves, and as the world slowly shifts into a corporate hell-scape we honestly feel like apathy is our best weapon. We do not support or endorse any political party or political figure, and we abstain from any political discourse. The way we see it, we are here to express ourselves and make good music that we love and people want to here, and we are just not really political people. The way political discourse has shifted into tribalism and supporting artists, actors, celebrities, and whoever else solely based on them being on "your side" politically is ludicrous. Why do we put so much pressure on people to support the things we do, when most of the time people only support those ideas because their favorite celebrity does, and then they just turn on them as soon as they don't support the things they used to (or don't preach about it every day on Twitter). We understand that there are terrible atrocities happening across the planet and doing nothing is not the right solution, but we here just don't feel like our opinions on what can change that are really going to aid in that effort, and we don't want to pretend like we're fighting some big fight and we're superheroes that have all the answers and we're battling this fight every single day of our lives. We're political nihilists. However, we don't want to discourage anybody from voicing their opinions on the misdeeds, corruption, and blatant injustices being committed across the globe. We still hope our music motivates you in that regard. We will call out bullshit and speak openly for or against the things we feel properly educated on, but those things are few and far between and mostly revolve around the corporate propaganda machine.
The main thing we stand against is the rise of artifical intelligence in our society. Now granted, we are not very informed on the nuiances of this topic, but we can see the path it's going to take us down if handled improperly (as it probably will) and we feel we should at least speak on it here. There are certainly a lot of things this technology can improve on our society and will improve once fully fleshed out, but the bad will certainly outweight the good and it's a shame to see our society transform so drastically into an artifical nightmare. You've seen it already: AI content being passed off as genuine, companies opting to cut costs by cooking up some uncanny valley bullshit for advertisements instead of freelancing an independent graphic artist, impersonating real people and using their likenesses to create content without their consent. It's only going to get worse from here and this technology has only been accessable for like two years. So we want to make it very clear to you all that our content is one-hundred percent free of any artifical intelligence. NDX has used vocalremover.org's software in the past to isolate acapella tracks from songs for remixes, but these are one-off songs that are just for fun and still contained completely original instrumentation and production. This was also a few years ago before it started to get really bad, so this will probably never be employed in his solo works again and will definitely never be incorporated into The Evangelist's works. It's too bad, because the idea of being able to have access to any song's acapella track was once a dream of his 10 years ago that could never be possible, and as soon as that blessing arrives it immediately becomes a curse.
Lastly, we are proudly 100% social media free. Both myself and my partner have been completely off of social media since late-2023 and plan to keep it that way. Social media was supposed to be a way to bring people all across the globe together in a way traditional Internet had failed to. We could be able to keep up with and understand foreign affairs, different cultures, and so much more in real time. We could get rid of archaic traditional ways of receiving information. But rather, it's used to spew hatred and bring each other down. It has spawned this tribalistic mindset with everything that comes across the screen. I don't want to accuse anyone here of being narcissistic or evil for using social media, I'm merely speaking on this from my personal experience. Social media made me overly concerned with my self-image; the way I perceived myself and the way others perceived me. Posting whatever stupid thing came to my mind because I thought it made me look cool or unique. And it made me realize that none of the people on my social media were even my real friends. As soon as I got off of it, I didn't hear from any of those people again. Getting off social media really centers your perception of reality. So much meaningless bullshit ceases to exist as soon as those few apps are uninstalled. All that truly matters is what is going on around you: the people you interact with day-to-day, your loved ones, the gas station attendant, the mailman, people you actually talk to human to human. I suffer far less from anxiety, depression, stress, and self-image issues now that I don't have to deal with any of that shit. I don't want to come off too preachy here, but I cannot recommend enough taking a long break from all social media (at least 6 months) and assessing your life. You'll realize that none of this shit means anything. To quote my favorite professional wrestler CM Punk: "Twitter is not a real place. It's like the open window in my kitchen with someone fucking screaming in it."
Oh, and let me make this as clear as humanly possible: WE ARE NOT FUCKING CONTENT CREATORS!!! This is part of why it's a tougher road for us trying to get a following than most other bands/artists, but we just don't care. We're not gonna make silly TikTok's or sell you Dude Wipes and BetterHelp subscriptions or make vlogs or any of that shit. We make music. That's what we do. I don't care if it means we will never be a successful music group, we will never stoop so low as to put music second and be "content creators" so we can hopefully one day make a full-time living as musicians. We both make decent livable incomes at our day jobs, we don't need to prostitute ourselves to the algorithm.
Thank you so much for reading this rambling blurb, and hopefully it helps you to get to know us better and see a different perspective on this fucked up thing called life. We don't want to be like these other musicians who are pseudo-mystifying and vague trying to come off as interesting and cool. We're pretty boring people in real life and don't really have any passionate opinions about anything outside of music. At the end of the day, just be yourself.
Sidenote: We here at The Evangelist do not endorse or support any religious organization or philosophy. Our use of religious imagery, specifically those of early/mid century Evangelical Christianity, are merely for aesthetic reasons and as a type of pastiche or reimagining. Both myself and my partner are not religious and would never discourage or recommend anyone to seek out a particular faith. We condemn all tragedies and acts of violence or hatred done in the name of God or the religion one supports. Whether you're a Jew, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, or anything in between and you support us and our music, we support you. As long as you are not espousing ideas and practicing acts of hatred and violence, we have no issue with you praying to and worshipping anything.
